Write Wednesdays

For a while now I have been trying to think of a good weekly feature to do on here. I tried the “Movie Review” thing, but don’t get to watch movies the way I used to so it just kinda fell to the wayside. I have decided to try this…I know we all get stuck, in a funk, or writer’s block from time to time. So, on each Wednesday I’m gonna try to post an idea for you to take & use. I might come up with some good things that would be tough for me, but some of you may be able to run with it. I don’t mean you have to wait til Wednesday to write your post (do it whenever you feel it)…just check back here each Wednesday if you get stuck to look for something new. I may or may not participate, just really want to give out ideas. I would like for you to come back here to the post you get the idea from & leave a comment with a link to your post so all of my readers can come check it out. I may have some readers that you might not have & this could bring you some new ones. That being said…let’s get this rolling.

Week 14 Idea: Create a story in/from outer space..

Til next time peeps…

  2. I was sure I was going to have to pass on this one, and I’ll be burned at stake if the story didn’t just hit me like a jet flying in the broom zone. I’ll be late. But I’ll be back. :)

  4. I always read these, but never think I have a great idea. I’ve really got to just go for it one day. Not today though.

      • Haha, I have to admit, my first thought was, “OMG! I’ve never had a dream about outer space!”

Something Scriptor Obscura wrote recently made me realize you might enjoy reading the story behind the story…

        Space Seed

I really had nothing… one little dream about a crab waving its claws at me that reminded me there was something called a crab nebula. It just wasn’t calling to me. Jason’s prompt staring me in the face offered no quarter. I claim I never have writer’s block, that my stories just write themselves. But there I was. Thursday was already snuggled up on my pillow and waiting for me and I had nothing for Wednesday’s challenge.

Why? Why have I never had a dream about outer space? It seemed like just a question, asked in frustration. Ironically, the crab in my dream gives me a seed to plant, and just such a seed was trying to grow. I never dream about outer space because there is no such thing! Aliens travel by inner space. They would talk to us psychically. The thoughts strung together and suddenly when the crab in my dream waved it’s claw, a whole solar system moved. I Googled crab nebula, jotted some notes down and went to cuddle in Thurdsay’s loving arms.

I woke up and pushed Thursday off of me. Of course he took all the covers with him. I had to laugh at the dream still floating in my head as I got up to shower. NASA was reporting that a crab nebula had moved. What a perfect ending! All through my morning routine I was building a dialogue with aliens in my head. On my way to work, I remembered Rudyard Kipling’s crab, Pau Amma, and my aliens had a perfect metaphoric name.

Ideas are seeds. By themselves, they are little teeny tiny things. But they aspire to be something much bigger. They can only grow if you first place them in the soil.

    • You should just post a quick paragraph about the day you thought your kids might be from outer space to get your feet wet. :)
