How I Got To This Point

Back when I was in high school computers really starting getting to be the big thing. I graduated in 1988. Alot of people knew this & took what little computer classes there were & typing. I just didn’t get it & had no interest in either of these things. After graduating & starting my adult life, still really didn’t think it was all gonna be a big deal. Sometime in 1998 I really started thinking about a computer & what this whole internet thing was. I decided to get one & start my life online. I called one of my best friends & had him come over & set it all for me & teach me some things. I was scared at first from hearing how they said “Be careful because of things you click on could cost you money”. He then told me to click on anything I wanted to, as long as it doesn’t ask for a credit card number…then they can’t charge you. He told me that was how I would learn it all. One of my other best friends lived out of town & he taught me how to get on Yahoo messenger & from talking to him on there, he taught me alot of other things. I was really enjoying it.

I started looking for things that I could learn to do to have fun & maybe make some money on the side. I taught myself basic HTML & started trying to build webpages. I had so much fun with this & built all kinds that really looked good, but never got any of them online. It was fun & a great experience though. Some friends got me into playing Quake online. That just blew me away how you could play with your friends that lived in other places & all of us running around in this game hunting each other down. So, I decided to read up & then taught myself how to build the maps that you use to play the games in. That was really alot of fun. It has been a long time & would love to be able to do this stuff again, but it is all way more advanced now.

I always enjoyed making up & or writing stories. I have always loved movies & would love to an actor (who wouldn’t) or director, but started thinking of things that had to do with movies that maybe I could do. I decided to try to write a screenplay. I was living with the above best friend that helped me set-up the computer at the time. I came up with a really good story & started writing on one of those yellow legal pads. I cranked out close to 70 pages & then stopped for a while (life got busy). A little while later decided to start transferring it over to Word to have it on the computer & thought that would kick me in the butt & get me going again. That has been about 13 or 14 years ago. Would love to finish it & maybe sell it for a movie, but it would be really hard to go back & get all the timeline stuff back in line.

I started hearing about all this “blog” stuff & dove into it when a friend told me about “Live Journal”. I had one going there for a little while before just really forgetting about it. Not too very long ago, I asked a friend of mine if he wanted to get in with me & start a blog about sports. He said he thought that it would be cool & I built us one on My Space. He is really good at writing & knows alot about sports…thought this would be really cool. He works two jobs & it became noticeable that he couldn’t put in as much time on it that we wanted so I closed it down. I had been wanting to get back into on my own & came across WordPress a little over a year ago. That was when “The Mindslam” was born. I have to tell you…you know some of the things that I have done since getting on the interent, but there was alot more that I haven’t thought of to tell you or just too much to list, but since I got going on this, it has been the most enjoyable thing I have done to date online. I would love to have enough traffic to be able to have adds & make money from this (we all would huh?) & I’m gonna keep on rolling even if that never happens. I love having all of you read my stuff & leave comments. I have made some great “blog buddies” since starting this adventure & love every minute of it. I have seen where people do this whole “Guest Posting” thing where you post on somebody else’s blog & let others post on yours. Wasn’t really sure how that worked so never really went into it that much. I think that I am gonna try it before long. I have a new “blog buddy” that is a wonderful writer & am gonna let her do it some on here to give us both more exposure & you all can gain helpful tips from her. If it all goes well, might try to do it with others as well. Thanks to all of you that I have met on here & talked to & hope you stay with me because I am in for the long haul.

    • Thanks so much Jackie. I have kinda let this one slip since trying to become a photographer & starting my photography blog back in October. (it’s O’Briens Pix in my blog roll). It has really become a hit & keeps me so busy that I haven’t had much time to do as much on this one as I want. I do try to make sure that I do my “Write Wednesdays” feature though. I don’t have internet at home so I have to do it all from work when I can so it’s hard to keep hard at both of them. Hopefully I can get back to this one & all the great people I have met on here. Thanks again…..Jason
