For a while now I have been trying to think of a good weekly feature to do on here. I tried the “Movie Review” thing, but don’t get to watch movies the way I used to so it just kinda fell to the wayside. I have decided to try this…I know we all get stuck, in a funk, or writer’s block from time to time. So, on each Wednesday I’m gonna try to post an idea for you to take & use. I might come up with some good things that would be tough for me, but some of you may be able to run with it. It will be next week before I can get back to a computer…I have been in the hospital since about midnight last night as my lovely wife gave birth to our 1st son at 6:36 this morning. We are still here & I didn’t want to let all of you lovely people down so I’m still gonna throw out an idea for you. Thought of it last night before all of this went into action. Getting In Shape With Xbox Kinect

We have had the Xbox Kinect since it came out. It is alot fun, but will wear you out. For those of you that may not know…it’s the newest video console game where you play without any controllers…you are the controller. You just move your body like you were actually doing whatever you are playing. Our youngest 2 girls really like playing & it’s so much fun playing with them. Anyway…my wife Krista saw a story where a woman lost some weight playing it so much a week instead of her normal workout. I just thought of trying this today to give me something else to write about on here. Now, I’m not a very big guy (never have been)…I’m 5 ’9 & 165lbs. I do however have too much of a gut than I want & would like to be able to do yard work without getting sore. Plus I’m 42 now & have a new son coming next month…will need some energy. I also figured that if I post this…maybe it will make me stick to it to keep you all updated. We play now, but not so many times a week & may go a month without playing at all. We play bowling the most. track & field, volleyball, boxing, & the Adventures game will kick your butt. We are getting season 2 of the sports game tomorrow. I know it has football, skiing, golf, darts & baseball I think…not sure exactly.
I’m planning on maybe even keeping up with what games we play each time & for how long to give you all better info. I guess it all depends on how much work that might be. Not sure if I will update you every week or every other week. Let me see how it goes. I don’t know how much I will lose, but will try really hard for all of you & for me. I have always been bored with working out so I never stuck to it. These games are fun, so it should help me stick to it & get my old butt in shape. I really enjoy playing with the girls anyway…so it’s a “win win” right? Check back to see what happens….this could be really funny. Til next time peeps…

I’m Alright…No Worries
Ever since we moved down to the country this past May…this has been in my head all the time driving back & forth to work. Really bad now that it gets dark before I even leave work & then have an hour & 20 minute drive home. I have come close a bunch so far, but it finally happened last night…I hit a deer. I have had to dodge a huge cow in the fog just walking right down the middle of the road, dogs like crazy….they run around all over the place. You really have to watch out because I would hate (or do hate now that it happened) to hit any of them, especially a dog because they are so much smaller.
I saw her as I was getting closer & started slowing down. She was up ahead & standing in the grass off to the right with her butt facing me. She did bend her head around & look at me. As I got closer, figured she would just run off into the woods on my right but she turned to her left & ran right out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes & kinda slid sideways. I didn’t see her get hit but it sounded like a bomb inside…loud as hell. She had to have run off because I slowly pulled forward & then kept going. That sounds kinda bad, but you all have to picture where I was….there are no houses, lights, curbs, stripes on the road or anything around. You can’t even see your hand in front of your face. I just knew that if I got out…those dudes from the movie “Wrong Turn” would have gotten me. I also would have had to turn around & put my headlights in that direction just to see & it’s hard to turn around here without going off in a huge ditch. See what I’m talking about…scary huh? I have to drive through here every day. My hood didn’t look buckled up while I finished my ride home so I figured it might not be too bad. Once home, I checked it out…my right front blinker & part of the grill is busted & my passenger side door is smashed in pretty bad (see picture). I didn’t see any hair or blood on my truck so I’m hoping she just had a bad headache & maybe a little sore. Would hate to know that I killed her. I’m fine since I was kinda ready for it. What did surprise me was that my airbag didn’t pop out & bust my face all to hell. If you remember from my earlier post about my truck, that airbag has been packed in there for over 16 years now so it may not even work…lol. Well, just wanted to tell you all about my little adventure last night & show you my door. Hope you are all good & be careful…it’s winter time & these beautiful animals are running around all over. I see at least 2 to 3 every drive. Til next time peeps…

Almost Time To Buy Some Hotwheels
As most of you may or may not know, my oldest daughter turned 22 on the 5th. My other daughter will be 10 on the 28th (also my birthday) & my step-daughter turned 10 this past June. So, as you can see I have been out numbered for the past 22 years besides Ledger (see Ledger tab at top). He can’t really help me out though…lol They are the best little girls that any Dad could ask for. I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world, but it looks like Daddy is finally gonna get some help. My wonderful wife Krista is having mine & her 1st son in about 10 more weeks.
I really can’t wait, but I’m not gonna know how to act. I have dealt with pink & purple bikes, dolls, screams, Dance Central, & cheerleading for so long now…what do I do? I know…it’s time for some Hotwheels cars, Tonka trucks, electric race sets, train sets, & football. Man, just gives me chills thinking about it. She is due on January the 26th but the doctor thinks it will be a little sooner. Yes, I will turn 42 before he gets here, but it’s cool. Hadn’t even planned on anymore kids, but Krista & I were pleasantly surprised. I was fine with all girls, but in the back of my head…wanted to be able to pass on my wonderful Dad’s name…he only had three sisters. So Thanks to the lovely Krista & alot of her hard work (just a little so far from me)….the Pearce name gets to carry on. Can’t wait to play with some real toys. So ready for some Hotwheels…many years ago I used to customize them & sell them on Ebay. Now, with all of our girls, little brother will always have a babysitter. All this talk of young kids & me passing on the family name, figured that I would throw in a picture of me from kindergarten for you to laugh at & give me hell. This was like 36 years ago….lol Til next time peeps…
An O’Brien’s Pix Update
Well, as you all probably know by now because of this post Secret I started a whole new blog back on October the 18th to bring you all on my journey as I learn to use my camera & take cool pictures. I haven’t been back really since then to tell you how it’s going, so here is an update. It’s going crazy, surprising, & I love it. It has been so much fun learning how to get good pictures & meeting other photographers & seeing their work. I Need Some Help WordPress
I have been writing this blog for a little over a year now & have loved, enjoyed every minute of it. I have met some really cool blogging buddies on here that I hope to have as friends for the rest of my life. I have always wanted to get into photography & decided to start a whole different blog with you guys just for that O’Brien’s Pix. During the year of writing this blog & making all of these friends, I have a bunch of wonderful blogs that I subscribed to or now follow. Since starting O’Brien’s Pix back on October the 18th, I have followed photo blogs on there to keep up with on that side…have a bunch of photo blog buddies over there. My problem that I have been running into is this. When I sign into The Mindslam & hit the “Read Blogs” link, it pulls up the ones that I am following for O’Brien’s Pix & doesn’t show my Mindslam buddies. I can hit “refresh” a bunch & nothing changes. Every now & then it does show them but only two…now more ever load. Anytime I sign into O’Brien’s Pix, it always shows the right ones for it….never does it show the Mindslam ones in there. Can you please help me with this….I hate not being able to keep up with my buddies from The Mindslam…that’s the whole reason I follow these great people because they are awesome writers. Lost In The Woods
I walked off into the woods this morning to try to get some cool new shots for my photo blog. I went in behind the houses across the street from us on an atv trail. I had to get off of the trail because of a big water/mud hole in my way. There are all kinds of wild animals here so I started thinking about what I may run across…it was a little nerve racking. There are are deer & wouldn’t be surprised if they were some bears. I heard some kind of rustling in the trees & it was my neighbor’s dog named “Bear”, so I did run into a bear. He ended up following me all around in there. After getting off of the trail, I saw some real pretty trees with cool colors since they are changing for the fall. There was some really weird stuff in there too. It reminded me of “The Blair Witch Project”. I found what looked like it used to be a clubhouse or maybe some hunter’s deer stand, but it was on the the ground. I ran up on this long barb wire fence that had a bent down spot in it…I stepped over it & there was this old wooden bench right there in the middle of the woods with nothing around it..no house, cabin, or nothing. Kinda spooky…especially this close to Halloween. I got some really cool shots…gonna post three of the colorful trees here & then the rest will eventually be up on O’Brien’s Pix Swing by there & check them out. After getting all the shots, I started to make my way back to the atv trail with Bear (wish he could have told me where to go) & I couldn’t find it. I started walking in what I thought was the right direction (it wasn’t). I ended up seeing some houses through the trees & thought I was home free. It was some houses but not the ones that I went into the woods behind. I came out on the main road that runs down to the lake about 3/4 of a mile down from my street. I was way off…glad I did this early in the morning when I had plenty of light. Til next time peeps…
A Call Out To The Rich
Does it bug any of you when you are driving around where you grew up or just in the town/city you live in & there are so many empty & run down buildings? I know the economy sucks real bad right now..people losing their houses, their jobs, & can hardly pay for anything (things are even tough for me), but if you had the money wouldn’t you like to fix up one or some of these buildings & then rent them out to small businesses? Downtown Memphis has some wonderful, beautiful, old, historic buildings just sitting there empty. You fix them up & somebody will put something in them. It dresses up the area & just makes everything look so much better. I love it when somebody takes these old warehouse type buildings & turns them into apartments, malls or whatever. I love the way brick looks being on the inside of your apartment, house, restaurant, or business…no clue why, have just always liked that look. There are some apartments there that used to be an old warehouse. The floors are concrete & there is brick on the inside…so cool to me. All the pipes & metal beams exposed..love that.
This would also create jobs (help the economy)..you would have to pay contractors to fix up the buildings. Once somebody put a business in there, they would have to hire employees…just a win/win situation. I wish I had the money to do it. This picture that I’m gonna show you all here is what looks like it was once a catfish restaurant. This is in a small town about 20 miles west of where I live now. It’s just on the corner of a little 4-way intersection so it’s not the same as what I am talking about in big downtown Memphis, but still somebody could fix it up & turn into another restaurant & that corner would look alot better. It was for rent…I saw the sign. What you all think? Til next time peeps…
Write Wednesdays
For a while now I have been trying to think of a good weekly feature to do on here. I tried the “Movie Review” thing, but don’t get to watch movies the way I used to so it just kinda fell to the wayside. I have decided to try this…I know we all get stuck, in a funk, or writer’s block from time to time. So, on each Wednesday I’m gonna try to post an idea for you to take & use. Use them however you want…make stuff up or make it true…it’s fully up to you. I might come up with some good things that would be tough for me, but some of you may be able to run with it. I don’t mean you have to wait til Wednesday to write your post (do it whenever you feel it)…just check back here each Wednesday if you get stuck to look for something new. I may or may not participate, just really want to give out ideas. I would like for you to come back here to the post you get the idea from & leave a comment with a link to your post so all of my readers can come check it out. I may have some readers that you might not have & this could bring you some new ones. That being said…let’s get this rolling.
Week 2 Idea: Take a picture of something in your backyard & tell a story about it.
This can be any object, tool, pet…whatever you like. Tell the truth behind it or make up a crazy, wonderful story. Til next time peeps…
